Kolkata and Punjab to clash for IPL 7 title today

Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab will play each other for the IPL 7 championship today. Kolkata have won an IPL season before, while if they do it, it will be the first time for Punjab.

So, the stage has been set for the big match. It will be Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab to face off to win the seventh season of the Indian Premier League – one of the most famous leagues in the world of sports today. Pride is at stake on both sides as both well-deserving teams have made it to the finals.

Virender Sehwag found form just at the right time for the Punjab side. When Glenn Maxwell was made to sit out and in the ensuing matches too, when he didn’t perform as well as he had done at the beginning of the season, it was the ripe time for someone like Sehwag to show his vintage form.

Sehwag became the first Indian to score a century in the current season of IPL. The good thing is that the triple-run mark came in a winning cause for Punjab. This means, at least at the moment, the Punjab fans will be looking more up to Sehwag than Maxwell.

So, Viru will be carrying more pressure to perform in the finals now. This can give Maxwell the freedom to play according to his wish and strength.

As far as Kolkata are concerned, they also have a good healthy run-up to the finals. The way Yusuf Pathan played the other day was one of the unforgettable innings of IPL 7. His 22-ball 72 made sure that Kolkata end up in the first two on the points table, which in turn means a second chance to quality for the finals in case the team loses the first one.

However, the team has been performing excellently well under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Another player who has been silently doing his work is Robin Uthappa. He has been consistently scoring more than 40 runs in the last 8-9 matches on the trot. It will be a big responsibility on him to give a good start to his team no matter they are batting first or chasing.

Bowling seems to be another strength of Kolkata, which Punjab comparatively lacks. The likes of Morne Morkel can potentially play spoilsport in Sehwag’s and Maxwell’s batting. If Punjab has to win this match, they will have to come up with some extraordinary bowling. Depending on their batting may not help them all the time, though they have come thus far.

This match is going to be a cracker of a final, with both deserving teams playing for the top spot. Whatever the result, cricket will certainly be a winner today.
