ICC World Cup 2015: Common Support Team India

The next edition of the ICC World Cup is already round the corner. This time, the WC will be held in the Down Under – in the Australian continent. The playing conditions have always been challenging, especially for the players from the Indian subcontinent.

India beat Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup finals in Mumbai to bring back the cup after 28 long years. It was that day, and it’s now this day. Four years flew by in no time and we are once talking about another edition of an ICC World Cup.

But today, there does not seem to be the same good old enthusiasm, which every one of us experienced last time. Is it because this tournament isn’t scheduled on Indian soil? Does playing a World Cup in a foreign country really make it more difficult? Do the players feel align and lack home support?

Defending Champions

There are innumerable questions and not all of them are easy to answer. In fact, only time has the answer to questions like if Indian players will be able to play on fast pitches and face the short balls by pace bowlers. However, the only upside is that the Indian team has been playing cricket in Australia for a fair amount of time and so they might have got used to the conditions well.

Indian Batting

There are many Indian batsmen at the moment who are not in form.

Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are two of them. It is very vital for Team India to have these two players going off to an early start in every match, be it setting a score or chasing. Virat is a master when it comes to chasing targets. He has scored many centuries while chasing and gave India memorable wins. So India will be looking up to the aggressive batsman to deliver the goods.

Indian Bowling

As far as the bowling department is concerned, India does have the quality bowlers. But the only question is, are they experienced enough to perform with that (World Cup) sort of responsibility. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mohd. Shami do have the firepower, but it should click at the right moment.

Umesh Yadav is one bowler who can deliver the goods and is quite useful when he gets going. Both Kumar and Shami are also difficult to get away when they are on top of the batsmen. Of course, the spin department will also have greater role to play.

Conclusion

India has doing reasonably well in the fielding department. But still, India is a team that’s not recognized for their fielding talents. How can one forget the last match between India and Pakistan when India had displayed exceptional fielding talent? Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli are all world class fielders. They will also have to field outstandingly well to make the positive difference for Team India.
